BYR Lab Community Rules
Hello! BYR is a platform for both creators who build incredible experiences and players who enjoy them. Together, we're building an amazing and supportive digital environment, so let's all be kind and respectful toward each other. Let's keep this community safe and creative for everyone. Thank you!
Review Rules
Rules for writing reviews on BYR Lab projects, assets, and content.
Spam
What qualifies as spam:
- Identical reviews posted multiple times on the same or different contents
- Gibberish, random characters, or nonsensical text
- Repetitive words/phrases without meaningful feedback
What does not qualify as spam:
- Short but meaningful reviews (e.g., "OK", "Awesome!")
- Reviews in any language that provide actual feedback
- Reviews with typos, grammar issues, or translation errors
- Genuine consensus (similar reviews from different users)
Key principle:
Focus on PATTERN OF BEHAVIOR, not just one questionable review.
Advertising
What qualifies as advertising:
- Links to external websites (YouTube, X, personal websites, stores, etc.)
- Promotion of paid services, donations, or crowdfunding (Patreon, PayPal, Ko-fi)
- Unrelated self-promotion that doesn't address the project being reviewed
- Affiliate links or referral codes
- Contact information for any purpose
Exceptions (not advertising):
- Creators responding to feedback with directly relevant content suggestions
- Links to documentation or resources that help understand the reviewed content
- References to official BYR Lab resources
Key principle:
Keep reviews FOCUSED ON THE PROJECT being reviewed. Promotions belong in project descriptions or user bios.
Offensive Content
What qualifies as offensive:
- Hate speech based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability
- Personal attacks, insults, or harassment targeting the creator or other users
- Threats of violence or harm (physical or digital)
- Sexually explicit material or inappropriate sexual comments
- Graphic descriptions of violence, gore, or self-harm
- Slurs, derogatory terms, or dehumanizing language
What does not qualify:
- Criticism of the content itself
- Disagreements about technical aspects or design choices
- Negative opinions
- Feedback
Key principle:
Context MATTERS. Criticism of work ≠ personal attack.
Irrelevant Reviews
What qualifies as irrelevant:
- Reviews completely unrelated to the content (politics, weather, personal stories, etc.)
- Discussion of other contents without connection to the reviewed one
- General platform complaints that are not specific to the reviewed content
- Feedback about BYR features/issues instead of the reviewed content
- Testing messages or placeholder text
Exceptions (relevant content):
- Comparisons to similar contents
- Suggestions for improvements (even if not about current features)
- Experiences using the content in different setups
- Performance feedback specific to the content
Key principle:
Ask: "Does this review provide feedback about THIS SPECIFIC CONTENT'S quality, functionality, or user experience?"
Impersonation
What qualifies as impersonation:
- Claiming to be the content creator when not
- Pretending to be a BYR staff or moderator
- Falsely claiming official status, authority, or expertise
- Using someone else's name or identity to post reviews
Key principle:
BE YOURSELF! Pretending to be someone else to gain trust isn't fair to the community.
Misinformation
What qualifies as misinformation:
- Making negative technical claims without evidence when asked
- Stating compatibility issues without proof (crashes, bugs, failures)
- False performance claims (FPS, memory usage, etc.) without data
- Accusations of malicious code without demonstration
- Claims of stolen/copied content without comparison evidence
- Fake coordinated reviews
Required process before reporting:
- Creator or another user must have requested evidence
- Reasonable time given to provide evidence (48+ hours)
- No valid evidence provided despite request
- Claim remains standing without support
Key principle:
Before reporting, ask for proof and give them AT LEAST 2 DAYS to respond. Let's be fair to everyone. Remember, people have different schedules and might NEED TIME to gather evidence!

When to use "Other" for reviews:

Being a Great Community Member
For content creators:
- BE RESPONSIVE TO FEEDBACK (even negative) When someone takes time to give feedback, even if it's negative, it means they cared enough to want your work to be better. A simple reply shows you value their perspective. It turns critics into collaborators and builds trust that you're here to grow with the community, not just for it.
- CREDIT INSPIRATION when building on others' ideas That person who inspired you probably spent nights tweaking, doubting, and refining that concept. A simple credit like "Inspired by @..." in the description doesn't cost you anything, but it can make that person smile even more. That's how creative communities evolve; not by plagiarizing, but by lifting each other up.
- HELP NEWCOMERS — because we all started somewhere A few minutes of your time answering a question in the Community Need-Help Section can change someone's entire experience. Your patience today might inspire the next great creator tomorrow.
- UPDATE YOUR WORK when bugs are found Whether you're a beginner or an expert, bugs happen to everyone. What separates great creators isn't perfection, but how they respond when things go wrong. When a user reports an issue, they're giving you a chance to make your work even better. Even a small update shows that you care about the experience you're delivering to your players.
- PRICE FAIRLY for the value provided Fair pricing means matching the value you deliver, whether that's $5 or $50. It's okay to charge what your work is worth, but remember: price your work like you're inviting people in, not keeping them out. Being honest about the value you provide builds trust and can turn buyers into long-term supporters.
For non content creators:
- HELP CREATORS HELP YOU by being specific Instead of saying "This game is broken" or "I found a bug," try describing what exactly is broken. For instance, you can say "The game crashes once I reach level 4." or "I can clip through the walls after upgrading my armor."
- ASSUME GOOD INTENT We all make mistakes Content creators are also humans. When you encounter a bug, think "This was unintentional", rather than "This was careless".
- UPVOTE HELPFUL CONTENT to surface quality work. When you upvote helpful content, thoughtful reviews, etc., you're guiding others toward quality, making them more trustworthy. After all — one upvote can make someone's day. Let's ensure quality work gets the spotlight it deserves.
- BUILD YOUR REALITY and let others join it. Don't be afraid! You don't need to publish a project to create something meaningful. Simply open your workspace, create a new project (or load an existing one), and begin experimenting. Share what you build, even if it's just a short project. Your project might inspire someone else to start their own.
- REPORT PRIVATELY FIRST before public criticism when possible. If someone's being unkind, dishonest, or harmful, reporting is a powerful way to protect the community. For bugs or unintentional mistakes, a private, kind message to the content creator often solves the problem — but for serious issues, such as harassment, scams, or any other rule violation, don't hesitate to report. I am here to keep BYR safe and welcoming for everyone.
The purpose of BYR:
We're all here to BUILD YOUR REALITY together. Great communities aren't just about avoiding bad behavior. Great communities are about ACTIVELY BUILDING SOMETHING AMAZING.
